Welcome to San Gabriel
According to the 2010 United States Census Bureau, San Gabriel has a population of 39,718 with a total area of 4.1 square miles. San Gabriel dates back to 1771 and is often called the “Birthplace” of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The city benefits from a diverse community filled with rich history and is dedicated to preserving the culture, vision and ideals of the different heritages. It is full of Asian, European, and North American culture and is known for the wide variety of ethnic restaurants, cafes, shops, markets, and historical landmarks. The most famous historical landmark in the city is the Mission San Gabriel Archangel, “Pride of the California Missions”, fourth of the 21 California missions. The Mission Playhouse is located at the center of the historic Mission District, and holds a wide variety of dance, music and theatre art performances, movie screenings and graduations. This city is also home of the San Gabriel Country Club, established in 1904 on fertile land which was part of the San Gabriel historic Mission. It is now the oldest golf club in Los Angeles and Orange counties and one of the most respected golf clubs in Southern California.
San Gabriel includes the friendly communities of Mission District, North San Gabriel, San Gabriel Country Club, South San Gabriel and Valley Boulevard.
